FLOOR SANDING General Queries?
Do you do Domestic
work?
Yes, however we do have a minimum size of
apx. 40 square yards, which is about 2 average size rooms.
How do I get an Estimate?
Generally if you have an approximate size
of the areas an approximate verbal price can be given over
the phone based on your sizes. A site visit is carried out
prior to commencement of job and a written Estimate then follows.
How long in advance to I have to book for Floor
sanding?
Generally we have a three- four week wait
for bookings, this normally rises however to six – eight weeks
around September.
How long does the job take?
It depends on how many areas are being done
and what size they are
e.g. Two average sized rooms would take apx. Two days. Up to seven
areas apx. Five days. A
guide time is generally given when booking in.
Should people move out while work is being carried
out?
Generally No, however we do recommend that
people who suffer with Asthma or other respiratory related
illness vacate the premises until work is complete.
Is there a strong odour from the lacquer?
There is an odour, which comes of the lacquer
while it is curing, however once the lacquer is dry (which
takes apx. 2-3 hours per coat) the fumes stop coming off it.
Then the area can be well ventilated to get rid of any smell.
N.B. We can where specified by the customer, use a Water based
lacquer, however it is slightly more expensive and takes longer
per application to dry.
FLOOR SANDING Preparation
Queries:
There are some boards which need to be replaced!
Do you do that?
No, however we can recommend a reliable Carpenter
for any repair work.
Do you fill gaps in the boards?
No, as this is a time consuming process it
would work out too expensive for us to carry out this kind
of preparation work. Normally what we recommend for small
gaps is that the customer try filling them with either a wood
filler i.e. Brummer or a solution of saw dust & glue,
which would be sanded level with the floor. For larger gaps
a Carpenter would have to put a slip of timber in them.
What do you do with raised nails?
They are punched/sanded level with the floor.
Do you take up/remove carpets or move furniture
etc?
No. The
areas where work is taking place must be completely cleared
of all Carpets, Furniture and soft furnishings before floor
sanding can commence.
How do I pick colours etc?
Some sample boards may be shown on site visits
to give an idea of some colours, generally we recommend that
the customer is shown samples on there own floors once they
have been sanded down because all boards are different due
to type of timber, age etc.
I
have had to replace some of my old floor with some new boards,
will they be noticeable?
No, the new boards can be coloured down/shaded
to match the old boards.
What kind of finish is put on the floor?
For domestic floors three coats of a two-pack
slip resistant lacquer, which comes in either a Satin or a
Gloss Finish as preferred, are applied to the floors.
For specifications on Commercial finishes please contact our office.
Is there a lot of dust?
Unfortunately Yes.
However all our machinery carried hoover equipment
and the areas are hovered before coating, but there will still
be some fine dust left over after we have finished which can
easily be swept or hovered away.
How will Sanding & finishing affect my décor?
Generally, it does not affect any paintwork
etc, however when the edges of the floors are being done,
sometimes the machines can tip off the skirting, and when
coating some lacquer may splash onto skirting, so will normally
tell people to leave the last coat off the skirting until
after the floors are done.
