Introduction
Conservation~Domestic A third generation family business originally dating back to the late 1870's, EV Kidd was later established as a limited company by Vincent Kidd Snr, who, along with his brother and sister, initially concentrated on French polishing and Wood Finishing on Dublin's North Side. Since then its specialties have been implemented to include Floor Sanding and Finishing. Although the skill of French polishing is greatly sought after by the customer, the calling for young apprentices has dwindled in this the age of computers & technology. This coupled with the expense of hand French polishing when cheaper methods of lacquering and spraying are now available has meant domestic work is no longer as readily available as it once was. And so our French Polishing division is mostly involved in conservation projects for the Office of Public Works where the knowledge and traditional skills passed down through the generations have proved, invalueble in the restoration of some of the countries most famous buildings including Kilkenny Castle, Castle Town House and The Casino at Marino to name but a few. Domestic on site contracts are still undertaken by the company and although it proves a little more expensive, it is without argument a beautiful, warm and not to mention a life long finish. The Flooring division, also renouned for traditional skills has now allied these with modern techniques and technology to provide an unmatched level of service. These days the job of sanding and finishing a floor is virtually dust free and with a wide range of Water based products available the vapours and strong levels of odours have considerably decreased, making the domestic customer a happier customer. The Kidd family connection is still very strong within the company, and over the years the business has established and maintained an enviable reputation for the quality of its service, the abillities of its craftsmen and its 'finished product'. Currently there are twenty two people employed by E.V.Kidd Ltd. |
